38 killed in one of the bloodiest days of protests against Myanmar military coup

Myanmar has seen the largest number of protesters killed since the military took power yesterday.

At least 38 people were reported killed in protests across the country on Sunday.

Security forces opened fire on protesters in Yangon, the country’s largest city. Protesters also took part in the protest with sticks and knives.

At least 21 protesters were killed in Yangon. Others have died in other cities across the country.

Myanmar has been under military control since the February 1 coup.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s civilian leader and leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD), has been detained by the military junta.

The NLD won a landslide victory in last November’s general election, but the military claims it was rigged.

Several MPs who fled did not accept last month’s military coup. They have secretly claimed to be the legitimate government of Myanmar.
