Youths take the oath to protect the forest on Sundarbans Day

Sundarbans Day has been celebrated in Padmapukur Union of Shyamnagar with the slogan ‘Love the Sundarbans on world valentine’s day’.

On Sunday (February 14) at 10 am, a human chain program was implemented by the Youthnet for Climate Justice to implement the Mangrove Student Society. President of Mangrove Student Society Ariful Islam, Advisor Masum Billah, Vice President Zillur Rahman, Maruf Billah, Motasim Billah, Nishat Mahzabin, Abul Basar, Shahriar Sultana Jyoti, and others spoke on the occasion.

Ariful Islam, president of the Mangrove Student Society, said the Sundarbans is our national resource. The Sundarbans protects us from various natural disasters. The Sundarbans protects us like a mother. So everyone needs to be more aware to save the Sundarbans.

Sohanur Rahman, the coordinator of Youthnet for Climate Justice, said the world heritage of the Sundarbans is under threat today due to industrialization, wildlife poaching, and timber smuggling along the Sundarbans. All kinds of industrialization around the Sundarbans must be stopped. Education and alternative livelihoods need to be provided for the people around the forest.

Besides, construction of solar and wind power plants at Rampal, Taltali, and Payra thermal power plants in Barguna was stopped at that time.
