Germany has increased its export moratorium on Saudi Arabia

Germany extends the arms export freeze on Saudi Arabia until the end of 2021. The news was published in the German media on Thursday (December 10).

Citing government officials, the German news agency Deutsche Welle said the government had extended the embargo to tighten suspended arms exports.

However, weapons developed jointly with the European Union will remain outside its scope.

Berlin withdrew arms exports to Riyadh in 2016 after Saudi Arabia’s role in the war in Yemen and the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

Germany then extended the arms embargo on Saudi Arabia several times.
