The Brazilian government must buy a Chinese Covid-19 vaccine tested in their country, said Hamilton Moore, the country’s vice president.
He made the remarks on Friday in direct opposition to the country’s president, Jair Bolsonaro. A report by the news agency Reuters has given this information.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has long been known as a critic of China. Last week, he said his federal government would not buy the coronavirus vaccine made by China’s Sinovac. However, his health minister had said a day earlier that the country’s vaccination program would include the Sinovac vaccine.
According to the news agency Reuters, there is an ongoing debate between the president and his key governors over coronavirus control and vaccination policies in Brazil. Although the federal government prefers the vaccine made by AstraZeneca, governors are looking for alternatives.
