Norway will provide technical assistance for potential maritime economy of Bangladesh

Norway is keen to provide technical assistance to harness the huge potential of Bangladesh’s maritime economy (blue-economy).

The interest was expressed during a bilateral meeting between Norwegian Ambassador to Dhaka Mr. Espen Rikter-Svendsen and Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun at the Ministry of Industries on Monday afternoon.

Mentioning that Norway has a long tradition of extraction of marine resources, the Ambassador said that Bangladesh could benefit greatly from this experience of his country.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Begum Parag was present on the occasion.

The meeting discussed in detail the strategies to harness the huge potential of the maritime economy in the socio-economic progress of Bangladesh.

Norway’s technical assistance in the development of the ship recycling industry, various issues of mutual interest including training of manpower working in the industry, marine waste and industrial waste management, marine fish processing, conservation of dried fish in modern technology were also discussed.
