Completion of three-days training on SRHR and Gender in Bandarban

A three-day TOT training program on SRHR and Gender for training up female mentors in Bandarban, initiated by Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures (OLHF) Project, ended on 27 August, Thursday. The training program was organized by the local non-governmental organization Ananya Kallyan Sangathon (AKS) with the support of Simavi and Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) funded by the European Union. Field level officers and staff of OLHF Project of Ananya Kallyan Sangathon (AKS), GRAUS and Tahzingdong have participated in the training program.

Executive Director, AKS Daw Nai Prue Naly welcomed the trainees in the inaugural session. In the opening episode, she said, ‘We have grown up with a lot of prejudices about menstrual health or reproductive health, our new generation needs to be much more aware of these issues by knowing fact-based information. You need to know how to make important decisions about your own reproductive and sexual health, and you must provide accurate information when you communicate with community people.

At the same time, in order to inform about these issues to the targeted audience, it is necessary to present them in a strategic manner. And there is no alternative to training to enhance skill and practical knowledge in this regard. I hope that all of you will be able to provide the training to the mentors of the Girls Club based on this training besides you will be able to make positive changes in the lives of adolescents and young women in the project area through applying gathered knowledge at the field level.’ Finally, she said that everyone should follow the guidelines announced by the health department and the proper use of health safety materials on COVID-19.

The training program is aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender as well as develop facilitation skills. Chairperson, GRAUS, Mong Thoai Ching, Executive Director, Tahzingdong, Ching Shing Prue and Project Director, AKS, Dinendra Tripura were present on the concluding day of the three-day (25-27 August) training program at the Forest Hill Resort Hall Room in Bandarban.

The training was facilitated by Sumit Banik, Master Trainer, Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha, and Co-facilitated by Sabuj Chakma, Project Coordinator, GRAUS. Among others present were Myamesing Marma, Project Coordinator, AKS and Ramesh Chandra Tangchangya, Project Coordinator, Tahzingdong. On concluding day, the invited guests have observed the presence of the training participants and shared their experiences and opinions on effective ways of disseminating the training’s knowledge in the context of hilly areas.
