Ambassador Rabab Fatima, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations is emphasizing on ensuring the welfare of children at the annual session of the UNICEF Executive Board.
The Ambassador said that in order to continue the general immunization program for children during the COVID-19 epidemic, to re-open schools safely, to ensure digital facilities and connectivity to students, to ensure safe water and sewerage, to provide improved mental health care and psychosocial development of children. According to a statement received in Dhaka today, Ambassador Rabab Fatima delivered the closing remarks on the last day of the four-day annual session of the UNICEF Executive Board.
The meeting unanimously adopted six strategic directions and collaborative decisions to advance the important work of UNICEF worldwide.
Ambassador Fatima noted the importance of assisting member countries in their efforts to implement the SDGs. In this regard, he said, the organization needs to continue to provide financial support to implement the mandate that UNICEF has to protect children worldwide, it is very necessary.
She praised UNICEF’s efforts to provide services and assistance in combating gender-based violence against women, girls, and boys in crisis-prone countries. He also highlighted the need for long-term funding from UNICEF to coordinate humanitarian and development programs.
Ambassador Fatima noted that children and their families are facing multidimensional challenges due to COVID-19. In this regard, UNICEF commends the efforts of governments in strengthening and expanding the social safety net.
