The UN Security Council will discuss today on Hong Kong issue

The United States and the United Kingdom have called for a Security Council meeting in Hong Kong on Friday to discuss the controversial security law that China is set to introduce. Diplomatic sources said on Thursday. News from AFP.

The source said the issue would be considered informally in a closed-door video conference so that any member could have other discussions if he wanted to, and that China could not oppose it in principle.

On the same issue, Beijing on Wednesday rejected the acceptability of convening a formal meeting of the Security Council in Washington.

“This is a matter of urgent global concern that implicates international peace and security, and warrants the immediate attention of the UN Security Council,” the U.S. Mission said in a statement on Wednesday announcing the attempt to hold the virtual meeting.
