Arrest warrant declared on Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus

An arrest permit has been declared against Bangladesh’s only Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus in a lawsuit filed over the illegal sacking of workers in Grameen Communications.

Three representatives of Grameen Communications registered three separate lawsuits against its Chairman Dr. Yunus and MD Naznin Sultana and DGM Khandaker Abu Abedin.

In the cases, they challenged the trio of dismissing them illegally for their performance in the formation of the trade unions at their workplace.

The accused were ordered to appear before the court on October 8.
Confirming the matter, the court’s Bench Officer Nuruzzaman said: “Dr Yunus did not appear before it in due time, so the court declared the capture warrant against him.”

The court granted bail to Naznin and Abedin when they appeared before it and sought bail.

“Dr. Yunus’s lawyer Raju Ahmed apprised the court that his client was abroad and he will appear before it after returning to Bangladesh.”
