Grameenphone introduces ‘Digital Ninja’ in Bangladesh

Grameenphone, the most powerful network of Bangladesh, launched an online onboarding platform for coders and developers called ‘Digital Ninja’ on November 6, 2018, at an event at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Mr. Md. Mujibul Haque, MP, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Wahid Sharif, President, BACCO, and Mr. Syed Almas Kabir, President, BASIS, were present as special guests for the event. The event saw participation from notable representatives from academia, ICT industry and coder communities.

The Digital Ninja initiative aims to facilitate the process for digital skill onboarding by providing an online platform where the required skillsets can be showcased for selection for Grameenphone projects. The platform can also be used as a portfolio sharing platform for job applications elsewhere.

Digital Ninja

‘Digital Ninja’ will create jobs for PHP, Python, Java and .Net Developers; UX and UI Designers; ML Experts; QA Engineers; Front-end Developers; Android App, iOS App Developers, and DevOps Experts. Experts can easily apply through the Whiteboard website.

Skillsets will be assessed in three categories – Yellow, Green and Black belts – based on the expert’s skills, profile, and experience. Once the assessments are complete, the incumbent will become a part of the Digital Ninja community. A new modality for recruitment, the Digital Ninja platform will enable fast-track development through faster developer onboarding. This will be a crowdsourcing platform which will be an efficient process to hire experts on a contractual basis. The platform will allow Grameenphone to post their requirement for skilled experts online, where digital experts will be able to apply. Experts will go through a thorough assessment session. Once the assessment is complete, developers will be hired within two weeks.

The modality of the platform is very simple. The idea is to keep a pool of talented developers, perform a skill-based talent hunt and onboard a ‘Digital Ninja’ immediately for any business need.

Explaining the immense potential of the platform, Michael Foley, CEO, Grameenphone said, “We have high ambitions for this project to be able to create hundreds if not thousands of jobs right here at home to support our industry, the digitization of the economy and ultimately the creation of a strong and competitive digital Bangladesh.”

Honorable State Minister Mr. Md. Mujibul Haque, MP congratulated Grameenphone on the launch and shared his expectations from Grameenphone and other organizations in the industry to work towards developing resources of Bangladesh to compete globally. He also spoke about the vision of the government to continue working towards building a skilled workforce to take Bangladesh forward.
