Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina offers all possible support to tsunami-hit Indonesia

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today offered to give all possible support to Indonesia to deal with the situation created by devastating earthquake and tsunami there on last Friday, leaving over thousands of people dead and huge devastation.

The prime minister said this in a telephonic conversation as Indonesian President Joko Widodo phoned her this evening.

PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said during the 10-minute conversation, the Prime Minister expressed her profound shock and grief at the loss of lives and property in Indonesia caused by the 7.5 magnitude tremor and subsequent tsunami.

The prime minister conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved families and wished quick recovery of the injured people.

“Indonesia is not alone in this difficult time…Bangladesh will remain beside you,” the press secretary said quoting the prime minister as saying.

Sheikh Hasina requested Joko Widodo to let her know about the needs of his country at this moment to deal with the situation, saying Bangladesh is ready to stand by Indonesia with all possible assistance.

The death toll so far rose to 1,347 in Friday’s earthquake and tsunami in the central island of Sulawesi.
