Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB’s) chief selector Minhajul Abedin on Saturday said they are still hopeful about injured all- rounder Shakib Al Hasan’s preparation in the training camp ahead of the Asia Cup.
The camp is scheduled to begin from August 27.
The star all-rounder Shakib, who earlier said he may go under surgery before the Asia Cup, was named in the 31-man preliminary squad for the tournament scheduled to be held between September 15 to 28 in UAE.
Talking to the reporters today at Mirpur, Minhajul said they don’t have any update of Shakib’s surgery yet and as such they have not thought of Shakib’s replacement.
He said they would start thinking about Shakib’s matter as soon as they receive update regarding his surgery but he hoped that Shakib would be able to join the camp.
After arriving in West Indies a few days ago Shakib indicated that he may skip the upcoming Asia Cup in order to get his injured finger operated.
Shakib sustained the injury during the tri- nation series final against Sri Lanka in January and was forced to leave the field midway, and could not play in the final.
The all-rounder also missed the following two-match Test series and two T20Is against Lankan before joining the squad halfway through the Nidahas Trophy held in March in Sri Lanka.
