Nissan gives the gift of water to a school in Limpopo in South Africa

The new water system has enabled all four taps within the school to operate, whereas previously only one tap was operational on the entire school premises.

Nissan South Africa has donated a fully functional water system to Bahlologa Secondary School in Lonsdale, Limpopo. Nissan unveiled the water system to excited students, teachers, and community leaders.

A few months ago, Nissan received a request for a water tank from the Bahlaloga school. After conducting a needs analysis, Nissan decided to support the school by overhauling the borehole system. The new water system has enabled all four taps within the school to operate, whereas previously only one tap was operational on the entire school premises. A school with hundreds of students having access to only one functional tap was extremely stressful and challenging for all involved.

“Giving back to the communities we work in has always been a priority for Nissan, so when we received the request from the Bahlologa Secondary School, we knew we had to help,” said Keba Matlhako, Nissan South Africa Corporate Social Responsibility manager.

“Access to water is a basic human right and it’s the gift of life. After we conducted an analysis, we realized how important their request was and decided to do much more than just donate a water tank. Part of Nissan’s global corporate social responsibility strategy is to enrich the lives of everyone on this planet, and this obviously starts in our own backyards.”

Nissan staff have also pledged their time to the school and shared words of encouragement with the learners in an effort to illustrate that there are companies, such as Nissan, that are willing to listen to people and help when they can.

“This new water system is going to change our lives,” said school principal, Ms. Mashiane.

“The learners and staff now have access to four taps, and that’s amazing. It gives me great pleasure to know that there are companies out there like Nissan which listen to our pleas and help when we need it. We are very grateful for their kind donation.”

Nissan is dedicated to serving society in whatever way they can and runs several corporate social responsibility programs throughout the year.
