Five killed, including children, after stolen car crashes in Meanwood, Leeds

Five people, including three children, have been killed after a stolen car crashed into a tree in Leeds. The accident happened on Saturday evening on Stonegate Road in the Meanwood area of West Yorkshire, England.

Among the victims were two brothers, Ellis and Elliot Thornton, aged 12 and 15. A third boy was named locally as Darnell Harte, who is thought to be 15. Two men aged 24 and 28 also died.

Two 15 year-olds were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in custody.

Police described being confronted by a scene of “complete carnage” when they reached the location of the collision involving a Renault Clio.

“Whether they were all in the car or whether some of the victims were pedestrians we can’t say at this point in time,” A police spokesperson said.

The families of the deceased have been informed.
