Anti drug awareness campaign kicked off in Dhaka

A press conference was held on 15th November, at the premises of Prottoy Medical Clinic ltd. to launch a nationwide anti-drug awareness campaign with the slogan “Ar madok noy, ei hok prottoy” (To be drug-free, committed we shall be). Honourable Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Anisul Haque was present as the Chief Guest.

As special guests, Mashrafe Mortaza, Captain of Bangladesh national ODI cricket team, Dr. Syed Imamul Hossain, Chief Consultant of Department of Narcotics Control and Mr. Nazmul Haque, Chairman of Prottoy Medical Clinic was present.

The chief guest stated during his speech, “Drug abuse has stood out as a major hurdle against the development of this nation”. He also mentioned that our Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has vowed to make Bangladesh a drug free country, and he stated that “Drug abuse cannot be eliminated just by enforcing the law, rather nationwide awareness and resistance needs to be built, which will surely be more effective in tackling this very issue”.

Mashrafe stated, “Todays’ youth, ones with overwhelming potential, could take Bangladesh’s sports to the next level but they are just losing their way in the vicious world of drugs and wasting their lives. Bangladesh needs these talents to break free of this dark world and walk towards the brighter future. Therefore, I pledge to work towards making Bangladesh Drug free and ask you all to unite in this effort.”

Dr Syed Imamul Hossain spoke about Department of Narcotics Control’s roles and measures towards prevention of drug abuse. Nazmul Haque, Chairman of Prottoy Medical Clinic stated in his opening speech, “Drug addiction is one of the most critical issues of Bangladesh. Prottoy medical clinic recognizes the gravity of this problem and strongly believes that this can be resolved by generating nationwide awareness and building a definite resistance against drugs.”

The speakers at the press conference all vowed to work towards prevention of drug abuse. They deduced that the only way to eradicate drug from Bangladesh is by generating nationwide awareness. The speakers urged people from all works of life to be part of this campaign by following these simple steps:
