Around 1.15 crore people suffering from Hepatitis in Bangladesh

Around 1.15 crore people in Bangladesh are suffering from Hepatitis related diseases, Reports BSS.

According to a statistic of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), at least 89 lakh to 1 crore people are affected by ‘Hepatitis B’ while 13.9 lakh by ‘Hepatitis C’ in the country and most of them are at the high risk of liver cirrhosis or liver cancer diseases at any stage of life.

In Bangladesh, at least 25,000 people die of liver cirrhosis or liver cancer diseases every year and many people are being affected by the diseases daily, the statistic showed.

According to the specialists, dust, reckless lifestyle, taking unscreened blood and lake of awareness are the main reasons for the rise in the diseases.

Among different types of Hepatitis virus, ‘B’ and ‘C’ are most deadly, they said, adding if anyone is affected by liver cirrhosis his or her death is confirm.

According to the WHO, Hepatitis ‘B’ is one of the main diseases of human being and around 20 crore people are affected by the different types of Hepatitis virus across the world. Bangladesh is in middle position.

Besides, around three percent pregnant women are affected by Hepatitis ‘B’ in Bangladesh.

According to Association For the Study of Liver, around five to six percent people in the country are affected by Hepatitis ‘B’ while the rate of Hepatitis ‘C’ is one percent. More 2.50 lakh people are being affected anew every year.

Forum For the Study of the Liver Chairman Dr Mamun Al-Mahtab said a total of 5.4 percent people are affected by Hepatitis ‘B’ and 0.8 percent by Hepatitis ‘C’ in Bangladesh.
