Two innovation teams, comprising of Grameenphone employees, are among the top three teams in Ignite, Telenor’s Global Incubator Program. The result was announced on June 8 in Oslo, Norway.

Winning teams from Grameenphone are EagleEye, creating an efficient, accountable and convenient IoT vehicle fuel monitoring system, and LiquidEye, providing real-time liquidity management for members of the distribution value chain in the mobile financial services industry. The other winner is SIGNAL from Bulgaria, with their remote smartphone personalization and support for the elderly idea.

The winning teams will be given funds to further develop their products with Telenor Group. Ignite’s aim is to develop digital products and solutions that can positively impact the societies in the countries where Telenor operates in.

Ignite Incubator is a Telenor effort to foster innovation internally. In the second version of Ignite 130 ideas were submitted for nomination from all Telenor companies, from which 30 ideas were pitched at Singapore in February. Ten teams were then selected for the 3-month incubator program. During a hectic three-month boot camp, the ten teams had to research, test, and iterate on their ideas, which were pitched to a global jury at Telenor HQ and showcased to employees and Telenor top management.

In its quest to becoming its customers’ preferred digital service provider, Grameenphone has been supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in Bangladesh through different platforms like GP Accelerator and WhiteBoard, while at the same time hosting Telenor’s platforms like Telenor Youth Forum and Digital Winners. Its employees are also being given opportunities to place their innovative ideas in global forums including Ignite.
