Bristol Naked Bike Ride 2017 to go ahead

News Hour:

The organisers of the Bristol World Naked Bike Ride say the event will go ahead as planned today and they are confident of their security arrangements.

Despite fears following the terrorist attacks in London yesterday Bristolians will defiantly strip bare and take to the city streets in the annual event.

“As bare as you dare” is the motto of the world’s biggest nude protest, occurring every year around summertime in dozens of cities worldwide and hardly passing unnoticed by bystanders.

The World Naked Bike Ride, which started more than 12 years ago, is an unusual environmental protest against “car culture,” the world’s dependence on oil and other non-renewable energy sources, and in defense of cyclists’ rights.

The number of World Naked Bike rides and riders globally varies from year to year. Currently, 70 cities in 20 countries are affiliated.

The seven mile route takes nude riders on a tour of the city centre, starting at the Full Moon pub on Stokes Croft at 11am.

The event is completely free to take part in, and the dress code is ‘As bare as you dare’, meaning you don’t have to go full nude, although a lot of people choose to do it.
