6.8-magnitude earthquake shakes Alaska

A shallow, 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit near a volcanic island chain located between Alaska and the Russian coast on Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake hit at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles), 199.1 kilometers (123.7 miles) northwest of Attu, the westernmost and largest of Alaska’s volcanic Aleutian Islands, the seismologists said. It was recorded at 2224 GMT, reports BSS.
