Masterchef Junior: Meet Afnan from Bangladesh

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

My name is Afnan. I am 12 years old and I am from Jonesboro, GA.

What made you decide to be on Masterchef Junior?

My 5th grade teacher Mrs. Valenzuela gave me a flyer for the auditions.

What has been your favorite part of being on the show so far? The amazing judges and HUGE kitchen.

What have you learned from the judges?

Gordon Ramsay has given the push that any chef needs to succeed. And, I learned to make a wonderful dish from him – Sea Bass with roasted Beets, Cauliflower Puree, and Sauce Vierge.

You had some very cool guests and judges. Who was your favorite and what was it like to meet/cook for them?

Aaron Sanchez, I was so excited to meet him since he is on Chopped, but, I was nervous because I made a Latin dish for a Latin Chef! Of course, I won that challenge.

What is one thing you want to learn how to cook?

A dish from Alinea in Chicago.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Archery, Science, Art, and RC.

What do you want to be when you grow up? 

I haven’t quite decided, but I would like to do something that can make a difference in the world.

What are your plans after the show is over?

Continue school and go to college.

What is a fun fact about you?

I have a disease called SJIA (Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis).

What are you watching on TV these days?

Of course MasterChef Junior, but I love all of ABC’s comedic shows, such as Blackish, The Middle, Modern Family, and the Goldbergs. I also ADORE Pure Genius and Code Black.

Anything else you want to tell America?

America, you haven’t seen anything yet from me. This season will be a very interesting season.
