At least 14 people were killed when an avalanche hit Pakistan’s northwest Chitral district on Sunday morning, officials said.
Chitral Scouts Commandant Colnol Nizamuddin Shah, the chief of the team taking part in the rescue operation, said that 25 houses were buried in the avalanche and five out of them were completely destroyed, reports BSS.
He added that it is unclear how many people have been affected or trapped inside the debris. Shah said that the killed people were six women, six kids, and two men.
District Commissioner Chitral Maghfirat Shah said that the incident happened in Shershal area of the district located in the country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He said that heavy snowfall had been lashing the area for the last two days which resulted in the accident.
