Children issues in Bangladesh deserve greater allocation in budget

Save the Children launched “UNCRC General Comment on public budgeting for the realization of children’s rights” in Bangladesh on December 26, 2016 at CIRDAP international Conference Centre in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

M A Mannan, MP, Honorable State Minister of Finance, Ministry of Finance graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Rasheda K Chowdhury, former Advisor to the Caretaker Government and Executive Director of CAMPE; Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Finance and Tahmina Begum NDC, Joint Secretary of Ministry of Women and Children Affairs also spoke in the event as special guests. Dr Ishtiaq Mannan, Deputy Country Director of Save the Children in Bangladesh chaired the meeting and Ashiq Iqbal, Public Finance Advisor of Save the Children in Bangladesh made the keynote presentation.

M A Mannan, MP, State Minister of Finance committed to take forward the issues of investing in the welfare of children in consultation with children. “If Ministry of Women and Children Affairs develop specific plan for the welfare of children, our ministry will allocate budget accordingly for the greater interest of children”- said M A Mannan MP. He also stressed on the need of pre-budget discussion at national level with the participation of civil society, children and other stakeholders in order to facilitate proper allocation for children.

Amena Akter, a children representative said on the occasion” If the central government allocate enough budget to the local government, then we will get the benefit”.
