The theme of World COPD For the year 2016 is “Breathe in the knowledge”. COPD or Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a progressive lung disease in which the airways of the lungs become damaged, making it harder to breathe. Pipe, cigar, and other types of tobacco smoking can cause COPD, especially if the smoke is inhaled. Exposure to secondhand smoke can play a role in causing COPD. Most people with COPD are at least 40 years old or around. Most people with COPD are at least 40 years old or around the middle age when symptoms start. Every year, COPD kills 259000 peoples worldwide. Bangladesh is also the risk on it, Almost 7 million people affected by COPD every year in our country.

To commemorate World COPD Day 2016, United Hospital Limited organized two days special programs, Scientific Seminar on COPD : Update & Overview on 16 November Wednesday 2016 at the Hospital’s Seminar Hall. Dr. Khan Md. Sayeduzzaman, Consultant – Respiratory Medicine & Chest Diseases & Dr. Rawshan Arra Khanam, Specialist – Respiratory Medicine Department of United Hospital were the Speakers of the Seminar discussed different important aspects & updated treatment facility regarding the topic.

On 17 November Thursday 2016,  Patient Edu- Session of COPD: Breathe in the Knowledge was held at United Hospitals Lecture Gallery where COPD Patients, Media figures, Businessmen, Community leaders, members from renowned national & multinational companies and others were also present.

Dr. Rawshan Arra Khanam, Specialist – Respiratory Medicine Department & Mr. Rayhan Uddin Biswas, Clinical Physiotherapist of United Hospital discussed the COPD and how to prevent COPD, awareness to maintain a healthy life, treatment facilities of United Hospital, also took feedback & answer to the questions from the participants.
