Takehiko Nakao expresses condolences on the passing of his Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej

Asian Development Bank President Takehiko Nakao has expressed his deepest condolences to the Thai people and Government upon the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Kingdom of Thailand on 13 October.

“His Majesty demonstrated strong dedication to his people and worked tirelessly for the development and prosperity of Thailand over several decades. King Bhumibol’s contributions to the Kingdom will be remembered by generations to come,” Mr Nakao said.

“On behalf of the Asian Development Bank, I offer my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Thai people and Government.”

ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in Asia and the Pacific through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional integration. Established in 1966, ADB in December 2016 will mark 50 years of development partnership in the region. It is owned by 67 members—48 from the region. In 2015, ADB assistance totaled $27.2 billion, including cofinancing of $10.7 billion.
