One killed and 3 female militant injured in Azimpur gunfight

Police and suspected criminals traded gunfire when the law enforcers were raiding a suspected militant den in Azimpur area of Dhaka this evening. Police have killed one militant and captured 3 female militants, whom directly participated in the fight with police. according to police one captured militant is the wife of deceased New JMB leader Major Murad.

Deputy commissioner (Lalbagh Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Md Ibrahim confirmed the incident.

“I have got a message that a gunfight between Detective Branch of Police and criminals is going on and I am heading towards the spot,” Md Ibrahim said earlier.

Visiting the spot after the incident, IGP Mr. Shahidul also told to media, “We are suspecting that of the injured women, one is Jebun Nahar Shila, wife of New JMB offshoot leader Major Murad alias Jahangir alias Omar, who was killed during a raid in the capital’s Mirpur earlier this month.”

“Police have found remarkable similarities between the face of the dead militant and that of Karim, who rented a house for the Gulshan attackers in Bashundhara residential area,” added the IGP.

Police have rescued three children from the spot and they have been sent to Victim Support Centre.

At least five members of the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit has also got injured during the fight. The injured CTTC officials are Mahtab, Jahiruddin, Lablu, Ram Chandra Biswas and Shajahan Ali. They all have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
