It looks like Bangladesh pace bowling sensation Mustafizur will have to stay in England since Sussex announcing last week their website that he unfortunately will not take part in their upcoming NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup group matches due to niggle in his shoulder, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) media manager Rabeed Imam told BSS today that the latest report received here indicates that 20 year-old Mustafiz also known to foreign media as ‘Fizz’ will have stay in England for further treatment.
“So far what he heard about Mustafiz that he will have to go for further more expert opinions to determine how bad his injury is. He has been advice from BCB end to go for more tests to find out how grave is his injury and then BCB will further decided what real action they will take regarding Mustafiz.”
Mustafizur has a SLAP tear (an injury to the labrum, which is the cartilage around the socket of the shoulder joint) in his left shoulder. He had an MRI taken a couple of days ago and BCB has asked him to do more tests.
“He has to undergo another assessment today, after which we will be able to know whether he will stay back in the UK for further medical attention or if he will return to Bangladesh,” said BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told a cricket website.
According to BCB’s media chairman Jalal Yunus, a fresh MRI can give an indication on the treatment process. “He will need another MRI to understand the exact nature of his injury,” Yunus said. “There’s some extra fluid on his shoulder. The MRI will tell us what he should be doing thereafter – an injection or a surgery. We will hear the advice of the specialists in the UK and our doctors and physio.”
