Zia emerges unbeaten champion in rating chess

GM Ziaur Rahman Zia of Bangladesh Navy emerged unbeaten champion in the Prime Bank 19th International Rating Chess tournament that concluded on Thursday at Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.

Zia secured maximum 9 points out of 9 games. CM Sohel Chowdhury of Sheikh Russel Memorial Sporting Club became runner-up with 7.5 points.

Five players earned 7 points each and after the tie-breaking system their positions are 3rd-M Sharif Hossain of Bangladesh Navy, 4th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Golden Sporting Club, 5th-S M Sharon of Bangladesh Navy, 6th- Md Sariatullah of Sonargaon Chess Club, 7th-M Masum Hossain of Fire-Service & Civil Defense.

Five players collected 6.5 points each. Their positions are 8th- FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of Sheikh Russel Chess Club, 9th-Shafiq Ahmed of Titas Club, 10th-FM Mohammed Abdul Malek, 11th-M. Abzid Rahman of Sonali Bank Sports & Recreation Club, 12th-Delwar Hossain.

Muhammad Zamir former Ambassador and former president of Bangladesh Chess Federation, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
