Sightsavers hosts side event at Conference of States Parties

Sightsavers is co-hosting a side event, Fulfilling Sustainable Development Goals through inclusive budgeting, on Tuesday 14 June at the 9th Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The event will be held in partnership with the International Disability Alliance, DPOD (Disabled People’s Organisations Denmark) and the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations. It will focus on worldwide initiatives for inclusive allocation of resources for people with disabilities, and the speakers include:

  • HE Karen Ellemann, Minister of Social Affairs and the Interior, Denmark
  • Dr. David ole Sankok, Chairman, National Council for Persons with Disabilities, Kenya
  • Mrs Priscille Geiser, Support to Civil Society Technical Unit, Handicap International
  • Mrs Clare McKeown, Director of Fundraising and Partnerships, ADD International, UK BOND Disability and Development Group

The conference, held this week at the United Nations headquarters in New York, will also see a decision made on the election of nine new members to the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Sightsavers’ Gertrude Oforiwa Fefoame is a nominee for the positions, which are given to “persons of high moral character and recognised competence in the field of human rights.”
