UN showcases first exhibition on 1971 genocide

The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN and Bangladesh Liberation War Museum jointly hosted a photo exhibition on the 1971 genocide at the UN Headquarters in New York for the first time.

The exhibition was officially launched by Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen on Wednesday, said a release issued here today.

“It will play a crucial role to the continuous efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in achieving international recognition to the liberation war genocide. It is a historical step taken in remembrance of the martyred souls,” Momen said in his inaugural speech.

“He expressed his gratitude to the organizers of the exhibition, especially the Bangladesh Liberation War Museum, for hosting such an important event, the release said.

The event was attended by ambassadors, UN and Bangladesh Mission officials, prominent members of the Bangladeshi community, and relatives of the freedom fighters and martyrs.

The exhibition features 27 photographs of the Bangladesh genocide, along with their historical contexts and descriptions, provided by the Liberation War Museum. It will be open to the public until March 31, 2023.”
