Tigresses end T20 World Cup mission empty-handed

The Bangladesh Women’s team’s T20 World Cup campaign came to an end in defeat after they were humiliated by South Africa by a score of 10 wickets in their final group encounter on Tuesday in Cape Town, South Africa.

Arriving here expecting to win at least a few games, they were on the losing side in every game they played this time. They suffered a seven-wicket defeat in their opening encounter against Sri Lanka, an eight-wicket loss to Australia, a 71-run loss to New Zealand, and now their worst-ever performance in the final game.

The Bangladesh women’s squad, who chose to bat first, was held to a score of 113-6, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty scoring the highest. While Nahida Akter contributed with 15 not out, Sobhana Mostary had a total of 27.

Ayabonga Khaka and Marizanne Kapp each secured two wickets for South Africa.

Making 117 for no loss, South Africa sped to win with 13 balls remaining. Laura Wolvaardt hit seven fours and one six to make the best score of 66 out of 56. Tazmin Brits, another opener, sent the ball four times across the lines before she was not out on 50 off 51.
