Bangladesh requires US$ 230 billion to implement NAP

According to the National Adaptation Plan, which divides Bangladesh into 11 regions under eight sectors, 113 actions have been identified to address 14 different kinds of disasters. This was stated by Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today (NAP).

“Of these, 80 are considered as high priority ones and 23 medium priority actions. To implement the activities identified in the NAP by 2050, we will require about US$ 230 billion,” he said.

The Department of Environment’s (DoE) auditorium hosted a workshop named “Consultation Workshop on Dissemination and Brainstorming of NAP Implementation” where the environment minister made the announcement.

Eminent water expert and Professor Emeritus Dr. Ainun Nishat, Assistant Secretary (Climate Change) of Ministry Md. Moniruzzaman, and DoE Director General Dr. Abdul Hamid were among the speakers at the program, which was presided over by Environment Secretary Dr. Farhina Ahmed.

Deputy Secretary Dharitri Kumar Sarkar and DoE Director Mirza Shawkat Ali jointly delivered the NAP.

The top officials who attended the workshop presented their ideas for putting NAP into practice.

The plan submitted to the UNFCCC on October 31, 2022, will not only emphasize Bangladesh’s position in the national report but also its position in the global arena with regard to climate adaptation, according to Shahab Uddin, who was speaking as the main guest.

“The implementation of this strategy will take into account everyone’s insightful opinions. In Bangladesh, the NAP will be successful in adopting and executing long-term integrated adaptation measures, “said he.

The minister said the NAP identifies particular adaptation needs for Bangladesh and appropriate strategies to implement those.

He said that in addition to developing the necessary infrastructure to combat the negative effects of climate change, more emphasis will be placed on helping those who live in vulnerable regions become more adaptive.

According to Shahab Uddin, adaptation measures outlined in the NAP will be accepted and put into practice through group efforts to combat climate change.

He declared that in order to guarantee Bangladesh’s sustainable development, his ministry would continue to work together with other ministries, organizations, and stakeholders.
