Thiago Silva extends Chelsea contract to 2024

Thiago Silva’s contract with Chelsea was extended on Friday till the end of the 2023–2024 campaign.

The Brazilian international has remained crucial at the center of the Blues defense despite spending over o500 million ($606 million) on new players this season.

In 2020, Silva, who had previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, joined Chelsea on a temporary basis. “I am honestly very thrilled to continue my career with the Blues,” Silva said.

“When I signed my first contract here, it was to just do one year. Now it is already the fourth. I could not have imagined that, but really it is a very special moment for me to sign and stay at Chelsea.”

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, the co-owners of Chelsea, have drawn criticism for their haphazard approach to the transfer market in their first season in command of the team.

However, they praised Silva’s expertise and leadership abilities in a joint statement as an essential addition to the range of young talent they had signed up on long-term contracts.

“He’s a world-class talent, as he’s proven over many years for club and country, and his experience, quality and leadership skills are vital to our vision going forward,” said Boehly and Eghbali.

“We’re thrilled he has extended his contract with us and we look forward to more success with him ahead.”
