PSG leave out big three but beat Chateauroux in French Cup

In the French Cup round of 64 on Friday night against third-tier Chateauroux, Paris Saint-Germain won 3-1 despite resting its key players.

Hugo Ekitike’s right-footed shot from the PSG bench gave them the lead after 13 minutes, with Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar not even on the visiting bench.

Natanael Ntolla scored the equalizer for the home team in the 37th minute, and they had further scoring opportunities before fading late.

In the 78th minute, Carlos Soler gave the visitors the lead again by putting in the rebound after home goalkeeper Paul Delecroix had stopped Ekitike’s header.

Another Spaniard, Juan Bernat, scored the third goal in added time.

In the one mild upset of the night, second-division Pau eliminated Ligue 1 strugglers Montpellier.

After 25 minutes, Mons Bassouamina scored from close range to give the hosts the lead.

Montpellier controlled the ball and tied the game with a header from Valere Germain in the 70th minute, but Pau came back and won the game with a goal from Mayron George in the 81st.

No goals were scored in a match between the bottom two teams in Ligue 1, but last-placed Angers defeated Strasbourg 5-4 on penalties.
