US donates another 1.5m Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for kids

To increase vaccination coverage and safeguard children aged 5 to 11 for the first time, the US government gave Bangladesh another 1.5 million doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children.

This delivery takes the overall amount of US vaccine gifts to over 75 million (7.5 crore) doses, according to a press release from the US Embassy here today. This cargo is the second shipment of immunizations for young children that the US has contributed this week.

The United States and the American people have donated more than two-thirds of all COVID-19 vaccines to Bangladesh, it was said.

The United States and Bangladesh continue to collaborate closely to assist each component of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Over 51,000 healthcare professionals and other employees will receive training on how to safely administer vaccines as part of Bangladesh’s rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine across 64 districts.

Additionally, the US has supplied 18 freezer vans, 750 freezer units, and 8,000 vaccine carriers, as well as assisted in the transportation of 57 million vaccine doses to far-off locations for the direct administration of 47 million vaccinations.

The US has provided more than $140 million in COVID-19-related development and humanitarian assistance to Bangladesh. The United States is the greatest donor for equitable global access to COVID-19 vaccinations, having contributed $4 billion to the COVAX program worldwide, which includes funding for ultra-cold chain storage, shipping, and safe handling of COVID-19 vaccines.
