International Women’s Day celebrated at ISD amidst festivity

International School Dhaka (ISD) has celebrated International Women’s Day on Tuesday in their premises amid festivity with parents, faculty, staff, and students of the ISD community taking part in different programs.

Since time immemorial, women have been contributing to society in multi-faceted ways, but in most cases, their contributions go unnoticed. To celebrate all those sacrificing women, pay tribute to the women all around the world, and recognize their social, economic, cultural, and political achievements, International Women’s Day is commemorated every year on 8 March.

Inspired by this year’s campaign theme #BreakTheBias, International School Dhaka (ISD) chalked out detailed programs to pay homage to the women who belong to the school community. At the very outset of the day, all women of the school’s community were greeted with flowers at the entrance with a personalized greeting card from the school director.

It was a gleeful event as all the members of the community were wearing purple, creating a divine vibe. On this occasion, the teachers conducted discussion sessions where they shed light on the significance of Women’s Day and talked about different issues related to women empowerment with a concentrated focus on this year’s theme of gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.

To make the women feel special, all women belonging to the community (parents, teachers & staff) and the senior students were given complimentary coupons in a shared gesture from ISD & The White Canary Café so that they can pamper themselves over a free cup of cappuccino. There was also an exclusive photo booth where everyone could snap photos to make this day a memorable event of their lives. ISD also hosted special assemblies on this day with a special appearance of a renowned women journalist as a guest speaker. Besides, some Grade 5 students have prepared video presentations under the hashtag #BreakTheBias as part of their lessons contributing to this year’s International Women’s Day theme.

Thomas Van der Wielen, Director of the International School Dhaka (ISD), said, “Celebrating Women means celebrating a mother, daughter, sister, friend, soulmate, partner, idol. It means celebrating true greatness, true wisdom, and true love. Never taking anything for granted may start with celebrating on a single day and hopefully will one day lead to the respect, equality, and breaking of biases that our world needs so badly.”

Nazia Nahid, a female staff member at ISD, expressed, “I am feeling delighted to be a part of this celebration where women are treated with respect and honor. I feel every woman is special, and I thank ISD for instilling the belief in us once again by organizing this event.”
