‘Bangladesh ICT Skills Competition 2021’ ends on a high note

After ten months of fierce battles and different rounds, the names of the winners of ‘Bangladesh ICT Skills Competition 2021’, organized by Huawei in partnership with Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), have been announced through a gala event held online on November 02, 2021.

In this competition, almost one thousand students from engineering universities registered, out of which only 15 students from BUET, CUET, KUET, IUT, and NSU made it to the final round. Among them, two students scored 1000 out of 1000 in the 1st round while 10 students passed HCIA (Huawei Certified ICT Associate) certification in the 2nd round, which was quite an outstanding show by the participants.

After the final round, three teams from three universities consisting of three members each were announced as the winners of this year’s ICT Skills Competition at the award ceremony event. Zunaid Ahmed Palak, ICT State Minister, graced the event as the chief guest with Beatrice Kaldun, Head of the Office and UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh; Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Bangladesh in attendance.

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Minister of State for ICT, said at the event, “It is the competition like this one that inspires our youth to reveal their latent talent. This is where many private entities, including Huawei, have played significant roles to align themselves with the goal of the government to empower the youth with the right set of skills. I thank Huawei for organizing such a fierce competition, through which it will be possible to find future leaders who will lead us to Fourth Industrial Revolution.”

“Today’s youth are the future of tomorrow. Huawei, with the ICT Skills Competition, is supporting Bangladesh’s emerging ICT talent and future ICT leaders by broadening their knowledge and equipping them with skills that will be useful and relevant to them both in their professional careers as well as lives as responsible global citizens. We at UNESCO strongly appreciate Huawei’s efforts in supporting the youth of Bangladesh by providing them with valuable learning opportunities.” stated Beatrice Kaldun, Head of the Office and UNESCO Representative to Bangladesh.

Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, shared, “Bangladesh is making great strides in digital transformation, so we thought it would be befitting to help the country achieve the goals. To that end, Huawei has been taking various initiatives including Bangladesh ICT Skills Competition to upskill the youth population, so that Bangladesh can keep marching forward relying on the strength of the future leaders.”

In this competition, the BUET team consisting of Sohan Salahuddin Mugdho, Rabeeb Ibrat, and Md Tahmidur Rafid has emerged as the champion; CUET team with Md. Kaf Shahrier, Hasan Mesbaul Ali Taher and Suhana Binte Rashid has become the 1st runner-up, and NSU team comprising Arif Ahmed Nowfel, Md Takiul Hasan Sakib, and Md Salim Reza Jim has bagged the 2nd runner up position. Each member of the champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner up team has been awarded with Huawei Laptop, Huawei Watch and Huawei Tab respectively. All these winners will be attending the regional round of the Huawei ICT Skills Competition to be held in Malaysia in May 2022. Besides, some of these winning students will have also the opportunity to work with Huawei.

Suhana Binte Rashid, a student of CUET and one of the winners, shared, “I am delighted to be one of the members of a winning team. The decision to participate in this competition has been one of the most profound steps I have taken in my life, as it has broadened my outlook and inspired me to push my limits to explore more. I look forward to the next regional round.”

Consisting of mainly two parts – ‘Practical Competition’ and ‘Theory Competition,’ ‘Bangladesh ICT Skills Competition 2021’ is meant for the science and engineering students. The sole purpose of this competition is to find out and inspire ICT talents. The contestants had to go through three rounds.
