25 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccination arrive in Bangladesh

A total of 25 lakh doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccination arrived at 4:30 am in the early hours of the morning at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from the USA under COVAX facilities.

“Officials of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and other relevant organizations received the consignment of 25 lakh shots of Pfizer vaccine at the airport,” Dr Md Shamsul Haque, Line Director of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health under Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) told BSS this morning.

The first consignment of 100,620 doses of Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine under the COVAX scheme came in Bangladesh on May 31, this year while on September 1, Bangladesh got 10 lakh doses of Pfizer vaccine, the DGHS sources stated.

The overall number of Pfizer vaccines has stood at 36,04,480, it added.

On May 27, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) allowed emergency use of Pfizer mRNA Covid-19 vaccine in the country.

Till to date, Bangladesh has collected 5,19,29,940 doses of vaccinations, the DGHS sources stated. Bangladesh has so far approved eight COVID-19 vaccinations to control the deadly disease.

The authorized COVID-19 vaccines are from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, CoronaVac, Pfizer, Covishield, Sputnik V, AstraZeneca and Sinopharm.
