Save the Children Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) have agreed to collaborate to ensure that children’s rights and perspectives are considered in local and national urban planning policies and projects.
According to a news release, the organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Sunday in a hotel in Dhaka to formalize the decision.
They’ll collaborate to create a child-friendly urban planning guidebook, help each other organize everything, and teach urban planners in child-friendly city planning.
They will also continue to advocate for child-sensitive concerns to be included in government planning and guiding documents, as well as partner with universities to provide child-sensitive urban planning courses in university curricula, according to the statement.

“Building a child-friendly city is a task, a challenge that is difficult but not impossible,” said Prof Dr Akter Mahmud, president of BIP. We need to get to work. The planning and construction of cities should be democratic, with children’s views heard.”
“The future world would be very challenging for children if we do not start working now,” said Onno van Manen, country director of Save the Children in Bangladesh. I hope that by working together, we will be able to achieve greater success in creating a child-friendly city.”
Mostak Hussain, Save the Children Bangladesh’s humanitarian director, Simon Rahman, Save the Children Bangladesh’s manager of urban resilience, and Prof Adil Mohammad Khan, BIP’s general secretary, were among those in attendance.
