Bangladesh seeks UN steps for sustainable peace in Afghanistan

Bangladesh has urged the UN to take tangible steps toward creating and maintaining peace in Afghanistan through inclusive political discussion.

Md. Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, said, “An Afghan-led and Afghan-owned inclusive political discussion rooted on national sovereignty and territorial integrity is crucial for creating and maintaining peace in Afghanistan.”

On Tuesday, the Bangladesh Ambassador addressed the UN Human Rights Council’s 31st Special Session on the deteriorating human rights situation in Afghanistan, according to a news release.

The ambassador urged the UN to take immediate action to prevent another humanitarian disaster in the South Asian area.

Ambassador Rahman said Bangladesh wants to see Afghanistan as a peaceful, stable, prosperous, responsible, and contributing member of the global community, noting that an unstable Afghanistan poses a severe threat to regional and global peace and security.
