Sweden enlarged its assistance to UNDP’s HR Programme in Bangladesh

Sweden has pledged its assistance for the United Nations Development Programme’s (UNDP) Bangladesh Human Rights Programme! The agreement was signed on Wednesday (June 2) by Ambassador of Sweden in Bangladesh Alex Berg von Linde and UNDP Resident Representative Sudipto Mukerjee, bringing the total Swedish contribution to 42.7 million Swedish kronor over the period 2015-2021.

The initiative, co-funded by Sweden and Switzerland, aims to strengthen important human rights actors’ capacity to advocate human rights in Bangladesh, focusing on the most vulnerable and marginalized groups.

The initiative helps state-run organizations, such as the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and law enforcement authorities, such as the Bangladesh Police, improve their ability to defend better and protect human rights.

The initiative also interacts with UNDP’s other interventions, focusing on judicial reform, the justice system, and access to justice.
