Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino has died

Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino has died. He died at the Capitol Medical Center near the country’s capital, Manila, on Thursday. He was 61 years old.

Aquino had to undergo dialysis for five months, according to Qatar-based Al Jazeera. He recently had a heart operation. Benigno Aquino was taken to a hospital early Thursday morning after feeling unwell. Shortly afterwards, his former spokesman, Abigail Bhalte, reported the death.

Benigno Aquino was the 15th President of the Philippines. He was in power in the country from 2010 to 2016. He is the predecessor of the current President of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte.

Benigno Aquino is the only son of Corajan Aquino, a symbol of democracy in the Philippines, and Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. His mother, Korajan Aquino, served as the 11th President of the Philippines from 1982 to 1992.
