Trump banned on Facebook, Instagram for 2 years

Former US President Donald Trump has been banned from Facebook and Instagram for two years by Facebook authorities. He will not be able to use these two accounts till January 2023. Facebook authorities announced on Friday (June 4). The British media (BBC) reported this information on Saturday (June 5).

Facebook banned him indefinitely in January for allegedly inciting supporters to carry out attacks and violence at the Washington DC Capitol. Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the incident that day by Trump supporters. The Oversight Board gave Facebook authorities six months to determine a reasonable penalty, but Facebook announced its decision within a month.

Facebook authorities say they plan to ban Donald Trump for the next two years. However, if public safety risks are reduced, he may be brought back to the platform.

According to a blog post on Facebook’s website, the issue of famous figures (public figures) to the general public in times of significant violence or crisis has been included in Facebook’s new policy. Violators of the policy will be banned from Facebook for various periods. The first will be suspended for one month.

The situation will be examined with the help of experts at the end of each period. The decision to ban Trump was also made in May, following a recommendation from the Facebook Oversight Board. Controversial figures using Facebook are thought to have hinted at dealing with future crises, including inciting violence.

Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, said: “Whether we punish or not, it will be controversial. Many believe that it would not be right to ban a former US president like Donald Trump on Facebook. Many believe that Trump should be banned for life now. ”

He added: “Today’s decision will be criticized by the opposition in the political arena, we also know the set. But our job is to come to a conclusion as clear and concise as possible.”
