6.3 magnitude earthquake shakes Philippines

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake shook the southern Philippine province of Davao del Sur on Sunday. The Institute of Seismology and Volcanology in the Philippines reported.

The epicenter was reported at 12:22 a.m. local time, at a depth of 15 km, about 6 km southeast of the city of Magsaysay, the institute said.

The origin is located above the original tectonic plate, which can cause more earthquakes and cause more damage.

The quake affected Kadapawan City, Coronado City in South Cotabato, and other areas in the Mindanao region.

Earthquakes often hit the Philippines due to geological instability adjacent to the ‘Ring of Fire’ in the Pacific Ocean.
