Youth workshop held in Patuakhali on prevention of violence against women and children

A training workshop has been held with a youth group in Patuakhali to prevent violence against women and children. The workshop was held on Tuesday (February 2) at the SDA auditorium on PTI Road in the city to increase the involvement of men and teenagers.

Total 37 youths of Jainkathi Union of Sadar Upazila participated in the event organized by the Bread; Member organization of Engage Men and Boys Network Bangladesh (EMB), Admas, and Model Youth Parliament. SDA Executive Director KM Enayet Hossain inaugurated the workshop under the chairmanship of Sohanur Rahman, Executive Chief of Model Youth Parliament. Also present at the session were Selim Mollah, Divisional Manager, BRAC’s Gender Justice and Diversity Program, and Sabbir Hasan of Pratik Youth Parliament.

BRAC and EMB Network have started work on 7 unions in 7 districts as model unions with the aim of sustainable development under the project ‘Promoting Gender Justice: Reducing Violence Against Women and Children in Bangladesh through Men’s and Boys’ Integration’. Following this, this workshop was organized with the youth community to make the Jainkathi Union of Patuakhali Sadar Upazila a Gender-Based Violence Free Union for Women and Children.

Eight video clips on the prevention of violence against women and children were displayed in the workshop through multimedia projectors. Participants present a team-based action plan on how to increase violence against adolescents and men to prevent violence against women and children through group work, what to do to prevent violence against women and children from their positions, and how youth union members can advance their activities.

At the end of the workshop, the youth took an oath to prevent gender-based violence against women and children. Youth Workshop on Prevention of Violence
