UN extends peacekeeping mission in Congo

The UN Security Council on Friday extended the mandate of their peacekeeping mission in the Congo by one year. At the time, there was talk of a phased withdrawal of troops from the country. News from AFP.

Fourteen of the 15 members of the UN Security Council voted in favor of the French proposal. In this case, only Russia abstains. The Congolese mission is known as the MONUSCO.

The mission in the Congo will be extended until December 20, 2021, with a maximum deployment of 16,300 troops and police.
