Shishu Aangina organized free health camp

Shishu Aangina organized its first-ever Health Camp in commemoration of 16 Days of Activism at Shilper Shikore, Kaliganj, Gazipur.

In 2020, the coronavirus outbreak once again demonstrates that our existing health system both public and private do not have the capacity to provide adequate services beyond the city corporation and municipalities.

Furthermore, people face a lot of challenges in accessing basic health services, that include access to basic health services, lack of knowledge regarding health and nutrition issues, gender-based violence, lack of recognition of mental health, and lack of institutional delivery.

In order to address some of these challenges Shishu Aangina planning to provide a comprehensive health intervention, in Baghdi, Kaliganj with the aim of improving the health, nutrition, and mental health status of the whole community with an emphasis on women, adolescents, and youth.

In preparation for the future health intervention, Shishu Aangina organized the Health Camp on 5 December 2020 in Baghdi, Kaliganj, Gazipur As Shishu Aangina is committed to promote gender equality and reduce gender-based violence, this camp is being organized on 5 Dec to also commemorate the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women where it wants to create an enabling environment for women and girls and to stop the violence.

The objective of the Health Camp:
• To understand the current health status of women, men, adolescents, children, and youth.
• To understand the interests of the people in accessing health services.
• To get buy-in from local stakeholders for future health intervention.
• Most importantly, to make people aware of the importance of wearing masks and washing hands.

The health was open for the poor people especially irrespective of people’s age, sex, religion, ethnicity, and minority, disability sexual orientation. Around 200 people attended the health camp.

At the beginning of the program, Mahmud Rahman Khan, General Secretary of Shishu Angina, gave a welcome speech. He also spoke about equality between men and women and stopping gender-based violence. Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Chairman, Jamalpur Union Parishad, said in his speech, “I am with Shishu Angina and will extend my cooperation in all such activities in future.” At the end of the speech, Tayyab Ujjman Tapu, Chairman of Shishu Angina, outlined the purpose of the program and promised to set up a medical center in the future with the cooperation of all.

Shishu Aangina distributed masks, Savlon soaps, and a leaflet for raising awareness among COVID-19 among the participants to ensure wearing masks and hand washing. Patients also get emergency medication from Uni Med Uni health pharmaceutical as a grant and leaflets for corona awareness from Celltek.

Seven Doctors from Do Something Foundation volunteered for the health camp. ACI donated 200 Savlon soaps. Shishu Aangina organized this Health Camp in collaboration with and Jamalpur Union Parishad, Uni Med Uni health Social, Do Something Foundation, and Celltek.
