International Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day celebrated in Bandarban

Award giving ceremony and discussion meeting were held in Bandarban on the occasion of International Women’s Human Rights Defenders Day with the theme “Build a world for Women, Invest Adequately, Prevent Violence”.

On Wednesday (December 2) afternoon, the event was organized in the conference room of Ananya Kallyan Sangathon with the help of Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha and Simavi under the Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures Project, collectively GRAUS, Tahzingdong and Ananya Kallyan Sangathon organized the event.

Milton Muhuri, Deputy Director, Department of Social Services, Bandarban Hill District, was the Chief Guest at the event presided over by Daw Nai Prue Naly, Executive Director, Ananya Kallyan Sanghathon. Ching Shing Prue, Executive Director of Tahzingdong, and Aung Chaw Mong Marma, Chairman of the District Anti-corruption Committee, were present as special guests on the occasion.

The invited guests said, “There are many enlightened people in this Bandarban Hill District. But today, this unique initiative to protect the rights of women and social work against violence to three grassroots people under the OLHF project deserves praise. At the same time, awareness was raised at the individual level to prevent violence against women in the district and all were urged to unite. Above all, the negotiators expressed the view that it is a civic duty to welcome the initiatives of women’s human rights defenders and to positively support their work”.

Project Coordinator Myamesing Marma gave a welcome speech and program conducted by Sumit Banik, Master Trainer of Bangladesh Nari Pragati Sangha. Advocate Bashingthoai Marma, Advocate Madhobi Marma, Advocate Sara Sudipa, Development Professional Lelung Khumi and other Journalists of electronic and print media spoke on the occasion.

The recipients of the award were Media Worker Buddhajyoti Chakma, District Representative of Daily Prothom Alo, Social Worker Nini Prue, and Development Worker Rupna Das.
