Meeting held in Borguna to prevent gender based violence

Barguna hosts parents’ exchange of views on gender-based violence against women and children. The exchange of views and discussions took place in the conference room of Barguna Red Crescent Plaza on October 18.

The exchange of views was organized by the Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament (Prateeki Youth Parliament) under the Engage Men and Boys Network for Promoting Gender Justice Bangladesh project of the BRAC Gender Justice and Diversity Program.

Motaleb Miah, General Secretary, Barguna Red Crescent Society, presided over the meeting. Md. Aminul Islam (Firoz Mostafa), Chairperson of Model Youth Parliament, presented the documentary. Mehrun Nahar Munni, Deputy Director, Women’s Department, was present as the Chief Guest. Barguna Journalists Union vice-president Md. Rafiq, Barguna BRAC Site Manager Md. Masum Billah, Red Crescent Barguna Youth Chief Md. Musa was present as a special guest. Journalists from print and electronic media including parents took part in the discussion.

Meanwhile, school teacher and guardian Devi Rani Roy said, “We have come together as husband and wife at the call of a social organization.” The people of our society do not come forward in the danger of one. We have to get out of it. One is in danger and the other has to come forward. If everyone protests together, it will be eradicated from the society one day.
