UNICEF welcomes the progress of monthly immunization in Bangladesh

Despite the challenges faced by parents, communities, and health services during the Corona epidemic, the rate of monthly immunization services in Bangladesh has surpassed the previous level of Covid-19.

UNICEF welcomes the progress of increasing the rate of monthly vaccination in Bangladesh beyond the pre-Covid-19 stage. This was informed in a press release of UNICEF today.

UNICEF Deputy Representative in Bangladesh Vira Mendonca said, “This is a significant achievement of the Bangladesh government and it will undoubtedly save the lives of thousands of children. UNICEF is committed to continuing its support of vaccination efforts to ensure that this momentum is maintained and that no child is left out.”

Coronavirus began to spread earlier this year and health services were severely affected as Bangladesh effectively went through a lockdown. Despite several initial challenges, UNICEF ensured the delivery of critical vaccines as the government continued this core service.

The goal of the National Immunization Program in Bangladesh is to vaccinate 3.7 million children a year. In April and May, more than 286,000 children missed the pentavalent vaccine, about half of the monthly target and earlier stages of covid.
