Training for female mentors on life skills and club operation held in Thanchi

A three-days training program TOT on SRHR and Gender for project female mentors, initiated by Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures (OLHF) project in Thanchi, Bandarban, ended on Wednesday (September 16th).

The training program was organized by the local non-governmental organization Tahzingdong with the support of Simavi and Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) funded by the European Union. Responsible female mentors of the Girls Club of the project in Thanchi Upazila were present as trainees in this training.

Project Coordinator Ramesh Chandra Tanchangya welcoming addressed the trainees in the inaugural session. Upazila Vice Chairman Nue May Prue Marma was present as the chief guest. Sumit Banik, Master Trainer of Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha, spoke on the purpose and importance of training and involvement of female mentors in girl’s club operation as a training supervisor.

The chief guest at the inaugural session said, ‘Adolescents and young women in these areas have been lagging behind in their health issues for a long time, and they are not as proper conscious as they should be. And in many cases, this unconsciousness becomes the cause of long-term illness in women’s lives. And through the involvement of this project, adolescents and young women will get a supportive environment to increase their life skills, they will be able to know about the good and bad aspects of their body and health. I believe that this training will play an effective role in enhancing the skills of the mentors in conducting the sessions at the girls’ club.’

The training program is aimed at enhancing the project’s girl’s club operation and life skills for female mentors as well as build up the basic knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender. Ching Shing Prue, Executive Director of Tahzingdong, was present at the concluding day of the three-days training program held at the Humanitarian Foundation Conference Room in Thanchi Upazila from September 14 to 16.

Sa Ching U Marma, Program Officer cum Trainer of Tahzingdong, facilitated the training. In the training session Tahzingdong’s program facilitators U Chaw Nue Marma, Me Prue Marma, Dashai Nue Marma performed as a co-facilitator. Project Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Nue Hai Marma was present among others.

The Executive Director observed the trainees’ group work presentation during the training session and provided the necessary guidance to the female mentors on effective ways to apply the acquainted knowledge and skills for operating the Girls Club and motivate the girl’s club member.
